Ancient Origins
First discovered in India more than 2,000 years ago, diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring material on earth. To unravel the mysteries of their formation we must travel back in time billions of years, when a unique combination of extreme pressure and very high temperatures caused the carbon present deep in the earth’s mantle to transform into phenomenally hard, incredibly beautiful diamond crystals.

Transported hundreds of kilometres to the surface by intensely powerful volcanic eruptions, of those diamonds that survived this epic journey, only a tiny proportion are of gem quality and will go on to be crafted into exquisite jewels.
A Historic Discovery
The largest diamond discovery in living memory and the second largest in history
Against all odds, an awe-inspiring rough diamond emerged from the Karowe mine that weighed a staggering 1,109 carats. It was the second largest diamond ever discovered, following the recovery of the famous Cullinan Diamond in 1905, which produced polished stones that now reside in the British Crown Jewels.

Broadcast on every major international news channel and dominating the newspaper headlines, word of the record-breaking find quickly travelled to every corner of the globe.
Igniting the Fire
To achieve the perfect play of light within a square emerald cut diamond, each facet must be positioned with mathematical precision.

The master polisher individually perfected the diamond’s 57 facets so that each was precisely angled to allow the light to project through and dance within the stone. As each facet was finessed and the smallest, twinkling planes were added, the diamond slowly came to scintillating life.
An Epic Reveal
After painstaking months of tireless artistry combined with science and instinct, the Graff Lesedi La Rona was born. An astonishing diamond unleashed from the rough, the 302 carat square emerald cut stone was a diamond marvel like the world had never seen. Only Graff had the expertise to reveal a further 66 satellite stones from the rough, including an exquisite 7.70 carat D colour square emerald cut diamond, laser-inscribed with GRAFF, Lesedi La Rona 14 and its unique identification number, to confirm its epic provenance and place in diamond history.
Exceptional Satellite Stones
AN HISTORIC COLLECTION
Alongside the Graff Lesedi La Rona, a total of 66 beautiful “satellite” diamonds were also polished from the world-famous rough diamond, ranging in size from under a carat to in excess of 26 carats. Each diamond is inscribed with Graff, Lesedi La Rona and its unique GIA number, and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity from Graff and the GIA.
